Getting Help for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating disease that attacks both men and women. It causes the nerve receptors to be over active causing muscles, bones and skin to be more sensitive to even gentle touches. It also affects the sufferer’s ability to fall asleep. The sleeplessness and the stress of constant pain causes fatigue and depression.

There are several drugs on the market that offer relief for most of the symptoms. There are antidepressants for the mood swings and pain medication to alleviate the never ending pain and sensitivity. Another drug on the market is called Lyrica. Studies have shown that it can cut the pain in half and has a positive effect on being able to fall asleep.

They are not sure exactly why it happens except that the drug affects the nerve receptors. The down side is that there are many side effects. The main one is that it can interact with many other drugs. That is why it is essential that a person give an honest assessment of other drugs they are taking. This will help the physician to prescribe correctly.

Some of the ways to help with Fibromyalgia are natural ways. Diet and exercise play a big role. Proper diet and exercise promotes good digestion and restful sleep. Treat yourself to full body massages. Acupuncture has been cited as helpful in many cases. Practicing meditation calms and distracts the mind from some of the symptoms.

What ever you choose to do to alleviate the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, you must make a commitment to be consistent. Yes, it does change your way of life, but it is a change that makes life more comfortable and enjoyable.

The pain and debilitating effect of fibromyalgia confused doctors and patients. How to treat it appears to be trial and error. Your suggestions of body massages, lyrica, diet/exercise and meditation may give relief to some.
