Fibromyalgia disability claims are hard to win, but there are things you can do to help your case.
The first thing you might want to do is, hire a disability lawyer. This is someone who knows the ins and outs of the system. They will advise you on what is needed to have a better chance of winning. Social Security rejects approximately 75% of the cases they receive; having all of your information in order is very important.
A board certified doctor needs to confirm the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Your general practice doctor does not qualify. A Rheumatologist or Neurologist can be contacted and worked with to get the diagnosis.
You need to collect anything that would support your Fibromyalgia claim. Things such as, your complete medical records and work records are recommended. A statement from your employer stating your limitations in the work place is very helpful; as are statements from family and friends about your inability to do things.
Another thing you can do is, make an extensive list of your symptoms and how severe they are. Also, keep a calendar and diary to record your activities, or lack of them, and how you react to them. These reactions can be: vision, memory loss or fog, being overtired, insomnia, irritable bowel, other digestive problems, vaginitis, anxiety, or loss of balance. In other words, anything that the judge at your hearing can relate to.
One of the most important things to remember is, the judges at these hearings are looking for specific symptoms. A vague, "I hurt all over" won't work, because that symptom can apply to several diseases or conditions. Let your disability lawyer walk you through the steps and increase your chances of a successful claim.
