How Stress Causes Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia studies have determined that women with very busy lives whom are ambitious and choose a life style that's overly stressful are prone to develop this syndrome. Men that have acquired Fibromyalgia seem to endure a lot of physical stress and have jobs that are very stressful. This stress seems to be chronic and is due to a multitude release of the neuroendocrine system. When a person endures stress, hormones are released from the neuroendocrine system which travels to cells through the blood stream. Cells that are targeted usually are stimulated or inhibited. When the body is inflicted with stress, muscles become tense. This is a natural thing that happens when we normally act to stress with a flight or fight response. It is understandable if this is something that happens often and over a long period of time, the muscles will become sore and cause pain.

The area of the brain where the certain neuroendocrine cells originate is the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus turns on or off our pituitary gland, which regulates all of our body functions. These functions include the responses of stress mentioned above and other responses such as to cold, sleep, and our ability to reproduce.

Fibromyalgia patients are usually out of balance as far as brain chemicals. The chemicals that they have problems with are serotonin, melatonin, cortisol, norepinephrine, and growth hormone. Also a substance P in the central nervous system when high, can cause increased pain. All can be corrected with a well balanced diet, focusing on certain proteins and supplementation with a combination of proteins. For more information on this protein combination and other criteria of fibromyalgia visit the website, Living with Essentials. There are also some antidepressants such as Tri-cyclic and Serotonin reuptake antidepressants that help levels of these neuro-chemicals.
