Preventing Fibromyalgia

There is no cure for fibromyalgia. Currently there are only ways to prevent or reduce the chance of flare ups of the disease, but there is no guarantee they won’t happen. Attacks are triggered by factors that patients should be aware of.

One of the major triggers of fibromyalgia is stress. Victims of the disease should strive to live routine and orderly lives that avoid excitement and surprises. Establish a routine of regular nourishment, sleep, rest and exercise. Avoid sudden surprises that may cause stress.

Environment is important as well. You have heard of the old lady that could predict rain because her “reumitiz” was acting up, right? The lady was suffering from fibromyalgia. As a general rule, people with the condition should avoid cold and wet or humid weather. Arizona, New Mexico and California are good options. The Northeastern United States and the Southeastern states are bad options.

A strong immune system requires a healthy diet and regular exercise. A healthy diet provides the body with the nutrition it needs to maintain and repair cells. Exercise helps to move these nutrients through the circulatory system to refresh the body's cells as well improve the digestive system. Exercise also helps to improve mobility and flexibility in the joints and muscles. Moderate exercise helps prevent fibromyalgia attacks however, excessive exercise can cause a flare up of pain.
