How to Decrease the Effects of Fibromyalgia

In the past few years, the Federal Drug Administration has approved one specific drug to help those with fibromyalgia. The name of this drug is Lyrica. It is still early and the doctors are not yet completely certain why this drug helps those with fibromyalgia. Even now, studies are being conducted to see if they can figure out why this drug helps sufferers. It is believed that it decreases the signals from the brain to damaged brain cells. In doing this, it is believed that it short circuits the painful stimuli from the brain to the muscles affected by fibromyalgia.

To date, most of the testing has only been done in laboratory rats and animals. By interrupting the damaged brain cells, it doesn't allow for the muscles to be aware of the pain and stiffness caused by these "faulty" signals. Other studies that have been done that encourage sufferers to exercise on a daily basis. It is hoped that by doing so, it will help build up the muscles involved and also in doing this it will help to decrease the pain in said muscles. It also helps to build up the tissue surrounding the joints of the body.

Some of the other ways to decrease the pain caused by fibromyalgia is to make sure the person is getting enough sleep. At night, it is difficult for fibromyalgia sufferers to get into a comfortable position. Due to that, many need to take medication to aid in them getting enough sleep.
