Just years ago, Fibromyalgia was not even heard of. People were going to their doctors complaining of a variety of symptoms, but no one had a name for the problems these people were having. Today, there is a name, and there is a diagnosis. It is Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a disease that affects the joints and muscles. It causes muscles to be sore and tight, and joints to be stiff. Before doctors knew about this disease, or had a name for it, there was no way to know how many people suffered from it. Today, many people are being diagnosed with the disease and the number of people who suffer from Fibromyalgia is in the millions, and is said to be in excess of twenty million. Millions of people have been diagnosed over the years. The disease has no consideration for gender, though more women tend to suffer from it than men, and although it is more common in people in their forties and fifties, it has been seen in people of all ages. It also has no regard for race, though typically it is more common in Caucasians than any other race. Millions of people at least have a name for their pain and discomfort. Before there was an actual diagnosis, no one really knew what it was or what to do about the disease. Although there is still no cure for the disease, the millions of Fibromyalgia sufferers are now having their symptoms treated as they arise.
Millions of people live with Fibromyalgia every day. Many do feel better now that they know what it is they have, and have ways of easing their symptoms. Just knowing that they are not alone is also of comfort for these people.
