TMJ Doctor is short for all those long words, stuff like maxofacial something, etc. I am not a medical term person, so TMJ doctor is good enough for me.
On the day of my appointment I check in to let them know that I was there. I sit down and see this autographed picture of Vikki Carr. I am thinking okaaay, what is this. I found out when I went to the patient room. It was the George Strait Room; not only that but there were pictures of George Strait and this guy whom I deceided was my doctor. I had not met him yet, but once you do you will not forget him.
The doctor came into the patient room and yes it was him with George Strait in the picture. This doctor would drive me crazy if I either had to work with him or live with him. He is very intelligent, but going a hundred miles an hour. You have to pay attention to him because first he rattles off this medical stuff and then he started to explain things to me so I could understand. I guess he saw the stunned look on my face.
A panoramic picture was done of my jaw line. It sure did not look good, but there was the TMJ. I has molar teeth missing, that meant that he would have to work with my dentist to make a partial. Now there was not any place to attach the partial. But we got that worked out, that will be in a different post.
The TMJ Doctor gave me so muscle relaxant and lots of physical therapy to do on my neck, shoulder and mouth muscles. They worked and what was cool is that some of them you could do while either driving or while you were parked at a red light.
This doctor was awesome, I could not believe my good fortune. The TMJ doctor told me about his and my ear doctors study. They wanted to find out if tmj causes the endrolymphatic hydrops, the other way around, or that having one makes the other one worse. They found out that in having both, one does make the other one worse. I asked him if they published an article on it. I was told no, that they found out what they needed to know and that was to help their patients more. I also found out that my ear doctor had invented some medical device that is still used today.
I could not believe my good fortune, I had two awesome, yet humble doctors. They cared more about their patients than medical fame.
By the way, the TMJ Doctor also had a Spurs room and pictures with them. Here was a man that treated the rich and famous, yet gave me an ordinary patient the same care. I was blessed with the doctors I had been sent to so far.
The next post will be about my dentist at that time.
