Unfortunately, many people do not believe that fibromyalgia is a real condition. There is no medical test that can be performed to determine fibromyalgia; it is chronic pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints. This condition has been misdiagnosed for many years as arthritis. This condition does not disfigure or cause malformations of the body, it simply causes pain, sometimes to the point that it will leave certain individuals bedridden. fibromyalgia can lead to some organ malfunctions. The pain is apparent all over the body, especially in the more sensitive areas such as the head, shoulders, neck, buttocks and knees. Pain, exhaustion and fatigue are the main complaints of people suffering with this disorder. Women are ten times more likely to be affected, while other factors such as age and genetics play a role. Doctors do not know for sure if fibromyalgia is a hereditary disorder.
According to studies people who suffer from this disorder seem to have an oversensitive sense of touch. Unfortunately people with fibromyalgia also experience a heightened level of pain and fatigue as well. Since this condition has been misdiagnosed for many years, patients need to be taken more seriously. There are tests being done to try to find a cure for this condition. Some believe that it is psychological disorder, but fibromyalgia is real. Dr. Alingenis from the Rheumatology medical center in New York believes that a possible clue to the origin of fibromyalgia is that most patients report the symptoms after visiting the doctor for a previous illness, or when going through a personal problem or crisis.
