Easing the Pain of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, a chronic musculoskeletal disorder, which causes muscle and soft tissue pain and soreness, is a disease plaguing mankind. The causes of this disease are still unknown, but there is treatment to relieve some of the pain.

The soreness of the muscles can cause exhaustion and make the neck, shoulders, and hips very sore. Seeing as the pain caused from fibromyalgia is often unbearable, patients are known to take up to ten medications at a time. Some of the common medications that are prescribed are sedatives, muscle relaxers, anti-depressants, and pain relievers. Many fibromyalgia patients have found themselves turning towards alternative therapies, because the medication just does not heal the pain completely.

The healing touch of a massage is one of the oldest methods of relieving sore and tense muscles. Massaging the muscles and soft tissue is known to increase blood circulation, ultimately reducing pain and improving mobility. Herbal supplements have also been used by patients such as teas, soups, and herbal pills, to lower pain and reduce fatigue. It is said that having a healthy diet can relieve your body of toxins and help reduce the pain.

Yoga has also been around for a very long time and is believed to reduce stress, along with stiff joints, through breathing and stretching exercises. From aromatherapy to pet therapy, there are so many alternatives to relieving pain from fibromyalgia. It is even said that laughter can relieve stress, anxiety, and pain. When suffering from fibromyalgia, finding an alternative way to relieve the pain depends on what alternative works for you.
