When one looks at a Fibromyalgia patient, they can easily fail to see the pain the sufferer is in. It's a “they look fine, so they must be fine” mentality and is incorrect and insensitive. Patients with Fibromyalgia awaken each morning to aches, pains and sometimes depression. Often times the medications they are given are not really doing the job. Yet, they know that life goes on and it is imperative that they continue.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that, while involving intense joint pain, is also characterized by a general fatigue. It is misdiagnosed at times as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and treated as such. Many Doctors still believe Fibromyalgia is a psychological problem. Many physicians, however, recognize Fibromyalgia as a genuine physical problem and take it seriously.
There are some medications that seem to hold great promise for those suffering from this syndrome. Cimbalta, also known as duloxetine HCI, has been shown to help the depression that seems to accompany chronic pain. A new drug to the scene, Lyrica, also seems to be of benefit to some and has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of Fibromyalgia.
However one chooses to look at it, the pain of Fibromyalgia is real and the solutions are guesswork at best. One needs to be sure to be under the treatment of a well-informed Rheumatologist who is willing to work with them to at least minimize the pain involved. One would suppose, or at least hope, that in this age of miracle drugs one would appear on the market that will be a conclusive help to those who suffer from the pain of Fibromyalgia.
