Fibromyalgia only affects between two to five percent of the general population. It may not affect a significant amount of people, but for those who do live with fibromyalgia, it can be a very painful daily experience. There are a few prescription drugs available to help ease the pain.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome that is not contagious, but possibly linked to genetics. The syndrome includes pain in the muscles, fatigue, chronic headaches, muscle spasms and sleep disturbances. Research has found that symptoms may have a slow onset. Some patients had mild symptoms in their childhood, but it naturally was diagnosed as growing pains.
With so many painful symptoms, it seems it would be unbearable to make it through the day. The aches and pains can be so bad at times that patients sometimes can't help but stay in bed all day. There are currently two FDA approved prescriptions that can help a patient ease the pain and live a more normal life. Research is currently ongoing to determine what exactly causes fibromyalgia and what can be done to treat this syndrome.
Fibromyalgia is a painful syndrome that nobody should have to live through, but it is unfortunate that some people are diagnosed with it. However, there is relief and hopefully soon we will have more answers and possibly a cure. If you are a sufferer of fibromyalgia, report your symptoms whenever they worsen and anything you do that helps to relieve the pain and problems. Doing this can help researchers to find a cure faster.
